1981
The Journey Begins!
Established with $5000 in county funding
1982

Organization was built on with the help of the Missoula Exchange Club members and volunteer co-coordinators Bob Deaton and Dan Morgan
1982-1984
Organization operated solely by volunteers donating

1984

United Way provide first grant to the organization to provide a part time paid coordinator and a new name adopted- The Child and Family Resource Council (CFRC)
1986

Staff comprised of a part time coordinator, VISTA, social work practicum student, RSVP person and volunteers.
Montana Children’s Trust Fund grant sponsored Survivors Anonymous support group and Step families Program.
1990’s
Strengthened focus on families by providing Parent Aide Program, Nurturing Parenting Program Parent Support Group and Effective Parenting classes


2000
Renamed The Parenting Place as a way to be more family friendly
2001
Began providing Nurturing Parenting Program to the men and women at the Missoula Pre-Release Center building relationships that have and will continue to result in longer term connections with The Parenting Place once they are released.
Providing an opportunity to continue supporting the family, often the other parent and the children.
2003

Exchange Club member Lee Cox began reselling furniture and refurbishing appliances with proceeds going to The Parenting Place.
Later this would become Donation Warehouse still our main partner to this day.
2004
Purchased current building 1644 South 8th Street West after being located in various borrowed spaces, MCPS, Holy Spirit Episcopal church, motel.


2017
Began providing parent education to incarcerated parents at the Missoula County Detention Center.
We don’t want to wait to address the problem, as these parents enter the corrections system we want to address the multiple issues that will eventually increase the risks for their children as well.
2020

Planet Kids leased our main building for their supervised visitation program.

Restructured to focus on strengthening families by providing education opportunities
2021

Celebrated 40th year of organization with rebranding of logo and website

Donation Warehouse hits $1M in donations to the Parenting Place

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) loan was forgiven, and the grounds are now owned by TPP outright
